…Whatever!
If you live in Australia you would probably be aware that the 40hr famine took place this weekend, finishing today. World Vision, who organises the event as a fundraiser, are focussing their efforts on the Global Food Crisis this year. With the Food Crisis in it’s second year, something needed to be done.
Why has the Food Crisis come about? Basically, world food production has peaked while the demand for food continues to rise. The need has outstripped the food available. To make things worse, the distribution of available food is grossly uneven. Countries like Australia, England and America enjoy an abundance of food. We have so much that we literally throw food away, while in some countries there is barely enough for families to eat more than one meal a day.
The Global Financial Crisis has also meant that even in places where there is enough food, many people now do not have the money to buy enough of it to feed their families.
More now than ever it is imperative that we do all we can to help out! And the horrible truth is that far from doing our best, many of us aren’t doing anything at all!
It is disgusting to think that while so many people are struggling to find the money for food, we are struggling with the decisions like whether to buy a Mars bar or a Snickers. It’s disgusting to think that we hesitate to give money to organisations like World Vision, because with that money we could buy a block of chocolate, a take away meal, a new designer jacket or the latest pair of shoes.
THINK ABOUT IT!
With the money that it costs you to buy a new pair of shoes, a family living in a 3rd World country could stave off starvation for another couple of months, or, depending on how expensive the shoes were, a year!
THINK ABOUT IT! It’s never too late to make a change!
Peace Out
